Most plugins are tuned by ear and described by adjective. Ours start on the bench. The same four steps run for every product, and the measurements they produce are published with it.
Real hardware and the plugins people actually mix with go on a probe rig: stepped-level harmonics, aliasing, release shapes, program dependence. Numbers first.
Each character is fitted in a Python measurement lab against those numbers, at a calibrated −18 LUFS plane, so amounts read in measurement language rather than taste.
The fitted model is ported to dependency-free C++ — the engine that runs in your DAW — with oversampling wherever a stage can alias.
